These videos are attributable to various sources and from news outlets for the most part. Most of the footage comes from the usual channels such as You Tube. The reason for bringing any of it here at all is to bring a certain flavor to the footage, that is, to edit and bring what we feel is the best footage.

That said, much of this is going then to seem familiar to you - or perhaps some of it not. Some of it, like Dylan opening his fan mail, may just seem silly. To us, it seemed telling because it showed Dylan interacting with the girl who we believe was the same young dark-haired school-girl fan that was in his hotel-room earlier in Don't Look Back, so this is an out-take from that footage. That Dylan kept her around and spent time with her is interesting and something that I anyway, didn't know until I saw this footage.

What we glean from this may be absolutely nothing and lord knows nobody at all is imputing here that anything is awry, only that we see a side of Dylan that was before edited out - maybe by him, maybe by others - but clearly, that he did not want us to see, or likely didn't want us to see. As any biographer (and that is my natural instinct), our job is give a balanced portrait. I admit, that's hard with Dylan because I find it hard to keep myself at any remove - I think he's great, which is precisely why I'm not writing a biography of him (instead I write one of Lewis Carroll). I run this site instead. I hope you like it here. I hope you find what you like. I hope you come back. I hope you consider linking, maybe even contributing. In any event, we're glad you're here.

Be well,

warhol screen test | bob dylan

this video is here not because it is good or bad, but because it shows a range of Dylan's emotions as he must have felt when he first came to New York. The Factory hardly seems like a real 'Dylan' scene, yet no doubt, he spent some time there as we know (this just goes to prove), but it hardly seems a scene he felt comfortabl with even then, and that's why i posted this. It's Dylan sad, Dylan angry, Dylan resentful, Dylan confused, Dylan trying to do the 'right thing' and then pissed off as hell that he feels he has to do that thing. Maybe i misread, but it looks that way and no matter what i'm told, or maybe what you've been told, it helps to see for yourself the actual footage as it is. It changes everything... for me it does.

Press Conference with other, 1965 - great humor

This leads in with Subterranean Homesick Blues playing, then leads into some rare press footage, so if you can listen to the lead in, the press conference is good footage... Dylan really in a good mood here (we all know he never liked press conferences). The questions are outrageous - small wonder he never liked the media - the questions are absurd... enjoy... some great pictures to follow as well, though you likely know most of them, i felt this worth posting simply for the press conference. It is interpersed with music, so stick with it through the musical interupptions... We all know Dylan has a great sense of humor - see it here: * I've tried hard to find the best videos for everyone from various sources so that visitors to Tant Mieux won't have to scope about and search. I've done the searching for you. s.r.p.
