Tant Pis-off! What about it?
We never were all sugar and cream and sweetness and light and all things nice. Not that we're not nice - because we are. But "nice" is such a nothing, banal sort of word. It's like that awful word "care" - I "care" about you. I'd just as soon as have someone "hate" me than "care" about me. At least the hating would take some emotional investment and effort: it would mean being moved somehow, and require some emotional response. I don't understand these almost see-through, wispy words like "care" and "nice." They seem, to me, so very noncommital.
I suppose that's what Tant Pis-off is, at least, in part, about - it is emotional energy. Thoughts, ravings, rants, musings, all the news that we feel is fit to print from this coast to that coast as we ping back and forth, but Christ we need a view from the other side of these Great United States so we drew in and flew in Fresh Blood and hooked the elusive Paul Angles, now Senior Editor of this section and Senior Cultural Correspondent (LA).
