Owen Hartford brings something to photography that is expected, but all too often rare.  He brings that rare ability to see the world in a way that is different from the rest, or most, of us. Where we see a tree, Hartford sees an atmosphere that he is able to capture on film and more, to convey to us effectively what it is that he sees not only through is camera lens, but through the lens of his eye.

Whether in words or in pictures, the ability to convey what you see is one of, if not the, most difficult tasks that any writer or photographer will ever face, yet like so many of the contributors to Tant Mieux, Hartforld takes the challenge full on, using all manner of subjects, making it look easy. His photos are by turns, dramatic, dreamy, rough, raw, emotional, and always but always evocative.  Small wonder his work has won awards and seen gallery shows.  These are validations, but the true vaildation of an artist's work comes from you, the viewer, and whether or not the work you see moves you and stays with you.

The above image reminded me of a drawing by illustrator Chris Van Allsburg with a similar dream-like quality to it - not eerie but evocative, an image that would make a great jacket cover for a book, intriguing, worth opening up, something I want to delve into...
