Cyrano on Tant Mieux
Tant Mieux and Cyrano have made the decision to partner up at long last and one could see it coming. It's a natural fusion of the wholly cultural and the naturally political with both sites bringing you the best social and political commentary there is. Just as we did with Teleread, we would not be surprised if next year, Cyrano on Tant Mieux made Blogging Heroes by Wiley as we did this year. But that is jumping ahead.
Let's first talk a bit about Cyrano: Cyrano is an online magazine run by Patrice Greanville. The mission of Cyrano can be summed up by one of its [formative] editors, Noam Chomsky, who said, "Privatization does not mean you take a public institution and give it to some nice person...it means you take a public institution and you give it to an unaccountable tyranny." Cyrano's Journal was born to combat the erosion of democracy in the US by a power elite extremely well versed in the art of government by manipulated consent.] This should give you some idea of what we at Cyrano stand for and what we simply do not stand for and vehemently so in both cases...
We are vehement animal rights advocates, anti-vivisectionists, we are against the present government as it is, and what we are for? Well, you'll read that within our pages. We do try to offer up solutions. There are not always solutions, alas, but problems - and this is a critique that some readers have had saying pithily, "You offer up problems with no solutions."
No. We point out problems and in doing so, we hope that this mobilizes others like us to help resolve those problems beginning in a grass-roots effort. This is the goal. To motivate. Call it agitate if you will, but that is to put a spin on it that doesn't quite fit. What we hate is apathy - giving up - acceptance of what "is" because you feel change is impossible. There is the improbable, which is not impossible, the impossible which is possible with effort, and the unlikely which is never impossible and more, just because a thing is "impossible" or "improbable" does not mean that it is unattainable.
Perhaps one of the most exciting developments in a long long time, at least since we fused the formidable Thomas Paine's Corner with Cyrano more than a year ago. You are all already familiar (we hope) with Cyrano's many and diverse blog areas and surprising sections in its traditional pages...but now a new dimension comes into the fold, and that is provided by Sadi-Ranson-Polizzotti's Tant Mieux, a site that is as captivating as it's impossible to define in just one sentence, very much like its creator...but which is without a doubt a place rich in effortless esthetic clarity and literary, cultural and political defiance. In the near future, by deepening our alliance, we will be able to present our collaborative materials to a much larger audience, thereby fulfilling a major part of our mission—to strengthen the remaining lights against the engulfing darkness...
