Necromancy

You would like the book – definitely.

You would like the tattered cover,

the serifed pressed letters set in Perpetua.

You would run your smooth palm over the smooth blue square of symbols.

This is necromancy – The Book of White Magic - a family heirloom.

How old? I don’t know anymore. It’s always just been there.

First you find your question – now then, you must snap your eyes shut.

Close those creamy lids drop the shades over those greens,

now allow your fine finger to dwell then drop on one blue archaic symbol.

There . Just where you land lays the answer.

I must have done this a hundred times if not more.

Always the same: He is thinking of the last time you were together.

More, I ask, Should I proceed?: “Yes. But the mainspring must first be set in motion.”

And if?... “Pleasure only, if you know to keep a tight reign.

If you know enough to keep your secrets .”
