stalemate

The steady hum of my car –

just a vehicle - here to there.

It only hammers– I am here;

I am yours, only not there to show.

Some proof then required if some answer to be had;

Simple math this - algebraic...

Does my silence frighten you as much as your silence frightens me?

Or is the line disengaged?

The proverbial phone off the hook.

No jerk on the tin-can line sends your breath whispering.

Stubbornness is a trait we share;

this stalemate could last for days,

See how carefully we guard our words.

We will not type. We will not speak.

How can you tell me that you love me in some safe way.

Why is this love dangerous?

This is hard.

For now, missives tight. Packaged goods of now.

Daily delivery –business, banality

completely anodyne to this situation.

All I want is your hand– as before.

The rest? Like you – don’t lie…

We wait the whole thing out.
